MLB Postseason: Tigers/Yankees Game 1 Up Big From Last Year, Down From Last Yankee ALCS

A dramatic series opener between the Tigers and Yankees earned strong numbers for TBS Saturday night.

Game 1 of the Tigers/Yankees American League Championship Series drew a 4.2 U.S. rating and 6.8 million viewers on TBS Saturday night, according to Nielsen fast-nationals — up 100% in ratings and 104% in viewership from Cardinals/Brewers Game 1 on a Sunday afternoon last year (2.1, 3.350M), but down 16% in both measures compared to Rangers/Yankees Game 1 on a Friday night in 2010 (5.0, 8.111M).

Compared to Game 1 of last year’s Tigers/Rangers ALCS on FOX (3.5, 5.770M), Saturday’s game increased by 20% in ratings and 18% in viewership.

Turner Sports said in a Sunday press release that Game 1 was the top sports program of the day on any network — a notable feat considering the day included a full slate of college football action.

Locally, Game 1 drew a 25.9 rating in Detroit and a 14.4 in New York.
