A rematch of last year’s BCS National Championship Game earned impressive numbers on CBS Saturday.
The Alabama/Louisiana State college football game drew a 7.0 overnight rating on CBS Saturday night, down 41% from the same matchup last year, when the teams were ranked #1 and #2 in the country (11.9).
Though down big from last year, Saturday’s 7.0 overnight is easily the highest of the season for college football on any network. The previous high was a 5.9 for Notre Dame/Oklahoma on ABC one week earlier.
The 7.0 also tops other recent primetime games on CBS, including Alabama/Florida last year (4.7), Florida/Alabama in 2010 (5.1), Florida/LSU in 2009 (6.8), LSU/Florida in 2008 (4.2) and Florida/LSU in 2007 (5.7).
CBS did not disclose overnight ratings for the afternoon SEC game between Mississippi and Georgia.
