The resurgence of the Notre Dame football team has paid off for NBC.
Last Saturday’s Pittsburgh/Notre Dame college football game drew a 3.8 final rating and 6.030 million viewers on NBC, up 192% in ratings and 190% in viewership from Maryland/Notre Dame in primetime last year (1.3, 2.077M), and up 138% and 164%, respectively, from Tulsa/Notre Dame in 2010 (1.6, 2.288M).
The game, which went into triple-overtime, earned the second-best numbers of the season for Notre Dame on NBC (six telecasts), trailing only Michigan/Notre Dame in primetime last month (4.0, 6.384M).
Head-to-head, Pittsburgh/Notre Dame comfortably outrated regional coverage on ABC (2.7) and doubled Mississippi/Georgia on CBS (1.9). The only game to earn better numbers Saturday was Alabama/LSU on CBS in primetime (6.8, 11.349M).
So far this season, five of the six Notre Dame telecasts on NBC have had increases of at least 50% in ratings and viewership. Three games have had increases of at least 100%.
