With the teams’ biggest stars sidelined, the Ravens/Steelers rivalry was less of a draw than usual on Sunday.
The Week 9 edition of “Sunday Night Football,” pitting the Ravens against the Steelers, earned a 12.2 overnight rating on NBC — down 13% from Eagles/Giants last year (14.0), and down 23% from Giants/Eagles in 2010 (15.9).
The 12.2 overnight is also down 14% from last year’s Ravens/Steelers game on NBC, which aired in Week 9 (14.2), and down 16% from the teams’ Sunday night game in 2010, which aired in Week 13 (14.6).
Perhaps contributing to the lower numbers this year was the absence of the Ravens’ Ray Lewis and the Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger due to injury.
Locally, Sunday’s game drew a 47.8 rating in Pittsburgh and a 39.0 in Baltimore.
