The long-rumored 24-hour Fox Sports cable channel has yet to be announced, but a launch date appears to be in sight.
League executives have been told that the new Fox Sports 1 cable channel will launch in August of next year, Sports Business Journal reported Monday.
The “big coming-out party” for Fox Sports 1 would be the 2014 Super Bowl six months later, which is scheduled to air on the FOX broadcast network.
The news comes on the heels of a TVNewser report that News Corp. has already designed a logo for the network and registered the domain name foxsports1.com.
According to the Sports Business Journal report, Fox Sports has been promoting the new channel among league and conference executives. The promotional strategy casts ESPN as vulnerable among sports viewers and FOX as the best alternative, even drawing on the success of Fox News in overtaking CNN.
