With the remaining berth in the BCS National Championship Game on the line, the 2012 SEC Championship Game tied a week-old season-high.
Saturday’s Alabama/Georgia SEC Championship Game drew a 10.0 overnight rating on CBS, up 35% from Louisiana State/Georgia last year (7.4), and up 59% from Auburn/South Carolina in 2010 (6.3).
The 10.0 overnight is tied with Notre Dame/Southern Cal the previous week as the highest of the season for college football on any network.
In addition, the 10.0 is the third-best for the SEC Championship Game since CBS began televising the event in 2001. Only the 2008 and 2009 games — both of which pitted Alabama against Florida — drew better numbers.
The past two weeks have certainly been heartening for ESPN, which is scheduled to televise the Notre Dame/Alabama BCS National Championship Game in January. Both Notre Dame/Southern Cal and Alabama/Georgia drew higher overnights than all-but-one game of last year’s Bowl Championship Series.
