The NBA’s Nets set a ratings record on YES Network Saturday night. In other news, ESPN had a big increase for Friday’s Nuggets/Lakers game, and golf’s World Challenge suffered a big decline.
- Nets Set Ratings Record in N.Y.: The Nets/Heat NBA regular season game drew a 2.15 rating on YES Network in the New York market Saturday night, the highest rating ever for a Nets game on the network. Excluding games that also involved Knicks, Saturday’s game ranks as the top Nets regular season game on a New York RSN since January of 1998. (Sports Business Daily)
- Nuggets/Lakers Up on ESPN: Friday’s Nuggets/Lakers NBA regular season game drew 1.6 million viewers on ESPN, up 202% from Warriors/Grizzlies on ESPN2 in 2010 (0.5M), and up 68% from Bucks/Thunder on ESPN in 2009 (1.0M). The 2010 and 2009 games aired on the day after Thanksgiving. Last year’s comparable Pacers/Trail Blazers game was canceled due to the NBA owners’ lockout. (Friday’s numbers from TV By the Numbers)
- World Challenge Overnights Plunge: Final round coverage of the World Challenge golf tournament drew a 1.0 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, down 62% from last year, when Tiger Woods won (2.6), and down 63% from 2010 (2.7). The 1.0 is the lowest for final round coverage since 2009, when Woods did not play in the wake of a November car accident. On Saturday, third round action drew a 1.1 overnight — down 39% from last year (1.8), and down 31% from 2010 (1.6). (This year’s numbers from Sports Business Daily)
