After five years of rain-induced postponements, the United States Tennis Association has elected to change the schedule for the U.S. Open singles finals.
The USTA announced Friday that the 2013 U.S. Open singles finals will take place on Sunday, September 8 and Monday, September 9. The women’s final is scheduled for September 8 at 4:30 PM ET, and the men’s final is scheduled for September 9 at 5 PM.
Both matches are scheduled to air on CBS.
The moves come after a five-year period in which the singles finals have been routinely postponed due to rain. Dating back to 2008, the men’s final has been postponed from Sunday to Monday each year, and the women’s final has moved from Saturday to Sunday four times.
The semifinal matches will remain on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
No decision has been made on the schedule for future years.
