BCS: Fiesta Bowl Overnight Declines, But Tops Orange and Sugar

Despite a strong match-up on paper, Thursday’s Fiesta Bowl earned mediocre numbers on ESPN.

The Oregon/Kansas State Fiesta Bowl drew a 7.7 overnight rating on ESPN Thursday night, down 14% from Oklahoma State/Stanford last year (9.0), but up 15% from Oklahoma/Connecticut in 2011 (6.7).

The Fiesta Bowl aired directly after the Rose Bowl in each of the previous two seasons.

Though down from last year, Thursday’s game drew a higher overnight than Tuesday’s Orange Bowl (6.5) and Wednesday’s Sugar Bowl (6.4).

Locally, the Fiesta Bowl drew a 26.2 rating in Portland and a 21.1 in Kansas City.
