Less than a year after being acquired by Turner Sports, the Bleacher Report has gained a significant profile on struggling cable news channel CNN.
Starting Tuesday, CNN and sister network HLN will use the Bleacher Report brand on daily sports news updates. The segments, which will last up to four minutes each, will air throughout the morning on CNN and all day on HLN.
In addition, CNN will air “long-form specials” under the Bleacher Report banner, including a Super Bowl special anchored by Ernie Johnson and newcomer Rachel Nichols this Saturday.
The move comes weeks after CNN announced that its online sports content would be provided by Bleacher Report instead of previous partner Sports Illustrated. That move goes into effect next month.
CNN, which for years has lagged behind Fox News Channel and MSNBC, is in the midst of an overhaul under new president Jeff Zucker. One of the more notable aspects of the network’s revamp thus far has been an increased commitment to sports. The network will debut a new weekend sports show anchored by Nichols later in the year.
