One of the last remaining bowl games on broadcast television, the Cotton Bowl earned impressive numbers on FOX.
The Texas A&M/Oklahoma Cotton Bowl earned a 7.5 overnight rating on FOX Friday night, up 60% from Arkansas/Kansas State last year (4.7), and the highest overnight for a college football game on FOX since the 2010 Boise State/TCU Fiesta Bowl (8.6).
Friday’s game drew a higher overnight than two Bowl Championship Series games on ESPN earlier in the week — the Florida State/Northern Illinois Orange Bowl (6.5) and the Louisville/Florida Sugar Bowl (6.4).
Since moving from the traditional New Year’s Day window, the Cotton Bowl has benefited in the ratings. In 2008, the last time the game aired on New Year’s Day, the game drew a 3.4 overnight. In each subsequent year, the game has drawn at least a 4.7.
