After hitting a multi-year high last year, the final round of the Northern Trust Open earned one of its lowest television ratings in nearly two decades last weekend.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Northern Trust Open earned a 2.5 final rating on CBS last Sunday, down 41% from last year (4.2), but up 9% from 2011 (2.3).
Last year’s 4.2 was the highest for final round coverage since 2003. By contrast, Sunday’s 2.5 is tied as the third-lowest for the final round of the tournament since at least 1996 (ratings prior to 1997 were not available).
Despite the lower numbers, the Northern Trust Open was Sunday’s second-highest rated sporting event on any network. Only the NBA All-Star Game on TNT (4.6) earned better numbers.
On Saturday, third round action earned a 1.5 final rating — down 29% from last year (2.1).
