Phil Mickelson may not move the needle like Tiger Woods, but he is a better TV draw than any other golfer on the PGA Tour.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Phoenix Open, won by Mickelson, earned a 3.3 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon — up 65% from both last year and 2011 (2.0 both years).
The 3.3 is the highest for the final round of the tournament since coverage on ABC in 2004 (3.5).
One week earlier, Sunday coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open — won by Woods — earned a 3.7 overnight, up 85%. Unlike last week’s tournament, the Phoenix Open faced competition from the Super Bowl pregame show on CBS (11.0).
Third round action on Saturday drew a 2.1 overnight, up 31% from last year (1.6), and up a tick from 2011 (2.0).
