With Cincinnati/Notre Dame bringing up the rear, CBS had a rough weekend of college basketball coverage.
CBS earned an extremely low 0.5 overnight rating for Sunday’s Cincinnati/Notre Dame men’s college basketball game, down 55% from Pittsburgh/Louisville last year (1.1), down 64% from Pittsburgh/Louisville in 2011 (1.4), and more than likely the network’s lowest overnight of the season.
No doubt contributing to the low numbers was competition from the Daytona 500 on FOX (10.0).
Later Sunday, Michigan State/Ohio State earned a much stronger 1.9 overnight — still down a tick from Wisconsin/Ohio State last year (2.0), but up 27% from Indiana/Ohio State in 2011 (1.5).
The numbers were not any better on Saturday. The Georgetown/Syracuse game earned a 1.2 overnight, down 40% from Missouri/Kansas last year (2.0), and down 29% from Florida/Kentucky in 2011 (1.7). Meanwhile, the preceding South Carolina/Georgia game drew a 0.7, down 46% from regional action last year (1.3), and down 65% from BYU/San Diego State in 2011 (2.0).
