TV Ratings: In Dallas, Soaring Stars Gain on Plummeting Mavs (Also: College Hoops, NHL on NBC)


Two years after winning a championship, the Mavericks have been reduced to holding off the Stars for a distant third-place on the Dallas sports scene. In other news, CBS had mixed overnights for college hoops over the weekend, and NBC had another uptick for the NHL.

  • Stars Gaining on Mavs in Dallas: The rather massive gap between the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars has narrowed considerably. Fox Sports Southwest has averaged a 1.7 rating for Mavericks coverage this season (46 telecasts), down 44% from the same number of games last season (3.0). Meanwhile, the network has averaged a 1.0 for Stars games this season (10 telecasts) — up 94% from the first ten games last year (0.5).   • Overnights Mixed For College Hoops on CBS: CBS earned a 1.9 overnight rating for Sunday’s Indiana/Ohio State men’s college basketball game, up 27% from Illinois/Michigan last year (1.5), and up 138% from Purdue/Illinois in 2011 (0.8). On Saturday, the Mississippi/Missouri game earned a much lower 0.7 — down 36% from both Connecticut/Syracuse last year and Kentucky/Vanderbilt in 2011 (1.1 for both games).   • Another Increase For NHL on NBC: Sunday’s Kings/Red Wings NHL regular season game drew a 1.1 overnight rating on NBC, up a tick from Capitals/Rangers on the comparable date last year (1.2), and up 22% from Bruins/Red Wings on the comparable date in 2011 (0.9).
