Idle Notes: No Pacers/Heat For ABC (Also: CBS Graphics, Braves/Turner)

Next week’s battle between the top two teams in the NBA’s Eastern Conference will not air on ABC. In other news, the new CBS graphics package will soon make its way to the network’s golf coverage, and the Atlanta Braves have ended their relationship with TBS.

ABC Skips Pacers/Heat Clash

  • Even though the teams are first and third in the Eastern Conference, respectively, next Sunday’s clash between the Heat and Pacers will not air on ABC. The network will instead carry Celtics/Thunder and Bulls/Lakers that day, with Pacers/Heat airing on NBA TV at 6 PM ET. The Pacers have not played a regular season game on broadcast television since 2006. (ESPN)

CBS Will Use New Graphics on Golf Coverage

  • The new CBS Sports graphics package that debuted on Super Bowl Sunday will soon by applied to the network’s golf coverage. In the weeks since the Super Bowl, CBS has continued to use the old graphics package on college basketball and golf telecasts. (Sports Video Group via Awful Announcing)

Braves, Turner, End Relationship

  • Atlanta Braves games will no longer air on any Turner Broadcasting outlet after the sides agreed to end their decades-long relationship. The 45 annual Braves games on Turner-owned Peachtree TV will now air on either Fox Sports South or SportSouth. Peachtree TV, formerly the local Atlanta version of TBS, had televised Braves games since 2008. Prior to 2008, Turner aired Braves games nationally on TBS and regionally on Turner South (which was later sold to FOX and became SportSouth). (Atlanta Journal Constitution via Sports Business Daily)

Wasn’t ABC schedule flexible or something?

At least NBATV should benefit from having Heat/Pacers.

    • Paulsen

ABC does have a flex schedule, but they have not made any regular season adjustments in several years.

    1) Surprised, surprised, surprised that IND/MIA has been removed from ABC.
    2) You’ll soon see the NCAA Tournament graphics on CBS/TNT/TBS/TRU (unless they make slight changes to those graphics). In December 2013, will the NCAA Tournament graphics be applied to CBS’ regular season NCAA Basketball coverage?

    • Paulsen

To clarify, ABC never had Pacers/Heat on the schedule. But it is surprising that the network chose not to add the game.

As far as the CBS graphics, I’d imagine that CBS will start using the new graphics on NCAA hoops starting next season.

Pacers/Heat would of Great for TV ratings on ABC. However you can call me crazy but I feel the NBA thought hmmm Pierce and Garnett won’t play why not we continue to put these guys on Sunday afternoon games. I felt the same with the Dirk Nowitzki when Dallas was on ABC the last Sunday of February
