MLB on FOX Overnights Down Once Again, But Solid (UPDATED)

Yet again, overnight ratings fell for Major League Baseball on FOX.

Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Rangers/Cardinals in 44% of markets drew a 2.2 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, down 33% from coverage featuring Yankees/Mets last year (3.3), but up 10% from afternoon coverage featuring Yankees/Cubs in 2011 (2.0).

Eight of the eleven MLB on FOX telecasts this season have had a decline in overnights compared to last year, including all five primetime telecasts.

Despite the decline, the 2.2 overnight is one of the highest of the season for baseball on FOX.

Saturday’s telecast was outdrawn head-to-head by Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on NBC (4.0). Once the final numbers are released, the NHL on NBC/NBCSN will have beaten MLB on FOX head-to-head in viewership for five straight weeks.

UPDATE 6/24: According to Sports Business Daily, Saturday’s telecast had a 2.2 overnight. The earlier version of this post cited ShowBuzz Daily, which had the telecast drawing a 2.4.
