Red Sox/Yankees Lifts FOX to Season-High Overnight, But Still Down

The biggest rivalry in baseball could only match the NHL in primetime Saturday night.

Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Red Sox/Yankees in 57% of markets earned a 2.5 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night — down 11% from coverage featuring Yankees/Tigers last year (2.8) and coverage featuring Cardinals/Rockies in 2011 (2.8).

The 2.5 overnight is the highest of the season for baseball on FOX, topping the previous high of 2.3 set in the first week of the season.

Last year’s Yankees/Red Sox primetime game on FOX had a 3.0 overnight.

Saturday’s telecast matched concurrent coverage of the Bruins/Penguins Stanley Cup playoff game on NBC (2.5), and not surprisingly trailed Game 6 of the Heat/Pacers NBA playoff series on TNT (6.2).
