Without competition from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, primetime baseball on FOX earned solid numbers on Saturday.
Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Yankees/Orioles in 59% of markets drew a 2.5 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, even with coverage featuring Mets/Dodgers last year (2.5), but up 47% from afternoon coverage featuring Mets/Rangers in 2011 (1.7).
The 2.5 is among the highest of the season for baseball on FOX. MLB on FOX has now topped a 2.0 overnight in four of the last five weeks, after failing to hit that mark in the five previous telecasts.
Saturday’s telecast earned the highest overnight of the weekend for a sporting event on broadcast, topping the final round of the AT&T National on CBS (1.6). This weekend was the first of the season in which baseball did not have to compete with either the Stanley Cup Playoffs or NBA Playoffs.
