ESPN’s Hugh Douglas reportedly engaged in an ugly verbal altercation with colleague Michael Smith last week. In other news, former ESPNer Mike Hill has officially joined FS1, and TBS MLB analyst David Wells has left the network.
- ESPN “Numbers Never Lie” co-hosts Hugh Douglas and Michael Smith had a nasty verbal altercation last Friday, according to numerous reports. The Big Lead and Deadspin each published independent accounts that have an inebriated Douglas initiating the confrontation and referring to Smith with racial insults. Douglas has not appeared on “Numbers Never Lie” since the incident took place. (The Big Lead, Deadspin)
- Former ESPN host Mike Hill has officially joined Fox Sports 1, the network announced Tuesday. Hill will handle news updates for the “Fox Sports Live” show and will also serve as an occasional guest host. In addition, he will contribute to “Fox Football Daily” and FS1 college basketball coverage. (Fox Sports)
- This is not much of a surprise, considering his complete absence from TBS so far this season, but David Wells has parted ways with Turner Sports. Wells served as a studio analyst for MLB on TBS from 2009 to last year, but told YES Network recently that he is a “free agent.” Wells: “Fishing and golfing is all I’m doing right now, so anyone who wants to hire me, I’m in!” Turner Sports confirmed to Sports Media Watch Wednesday that Wells will not be returning.
