The rematch between Alabama and Texas A&M earned huge numbers on CBS Saturday.
The Alabama/Texas A&M college football game earned a 9.0 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 200% from both Alabama/Arkansas last year (3.0) and Florida/Tennessee in 2011 (3.0).
Excluding the SEC Championship Game, the 9.0 overnight is the highest for an afternoon college football game on CBS since Miami/Notre Dame in October 1990 (10.1). Keep in mind that primetime games have earned larger numbers (LSU/Alabama in 2011 had an 11.9 overnight).
Only two of last year’s regular season college football telecasts exceeded Saturday’s 9.0 overnight — Notre Dame/Southern Cal on ABC and the Alabama/Georgia SEC title game on CBS. Both games had a 10.0 overnight.
Last year’s Texas A&M/Alabama game, which took place in Week 11 of the season, had a 6.6 overnight.
