Viewership declined for the first season of Formula 1 racing on NBC Sports Group, but the four races on NBC had a modest increase. In other news, the Indiana Pacers are among the NBA’s five highest rated teams locally, and viewership dropped for “The Ultimate Fighter” on FS1.
- NBC, NBC Sports Network and CNBC averaged 366,000 viewers for 19 Formula 1 telecasts in 2013, down 19% from 20 races on FOX and Speed Channel last year (414K). The four races on NBC, however, were actually up 9% from last year’s comparable telecasts on FOX (1.1M to 1.0M). The November 24 season finale from Brazil drew a 0.7 U.S. rating and 1.1 million viewers, trailing only the May 26 Monaco race (1.4M) as the most-viewed of the year. (NBC Sports)
- Indiana Pacers regular season games have averaged a 4.1 rating on Fox Sports Midwest so far this season, ranking fourth among all NBA teams so far this season. The team had the 13th highest local rating last season. Pacers ratings increased 113% in the month of November, the largest increase in the NBA. (Pacers.com)
- The latest season of the UFC reality show “The Ultimate Fighter” averaged 648,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1, according to Sports Business Journal, down 22% from last season on FX (832K). Due to a dramatic increase in the number of repeat episodes, however, the show actually attracted more viewers (14.8M in 163 windows) than last year (13.8M in 24 windows). (Sports Business Journal)
