Premier League Sets U.S. TV Records on Opening Weekend

The start of the English Premier League season generated record numbers on NBC and NBCSN.

The opening weekend of the EPL season averaged 545,000 viewers across five telecasts on NBC and NBCSN, up 23% from last year (443K), up 119% from coverage on ESPN2 and Fox Soccer in 2012 (249K), and the most-watched opening weekend of the season ever on U.S. TV.

NBC in particular earned 885,000 viewers for Saturday’s Arsenal/Crystal Palace match, according to Nielsen fast-nationals — the single largest opening weekend audience ever in the U.S., and up 12% from last year’s Swansea City/Manchester United telecast (792K).

NBCSN also attracted a record audience, earning a U.S. cable record 514,000 for Sunday’s Newcastle/Manchester United telecast.
