Sunday’s NHL doubleheader on NBC earned the two highest overnight ratings for Stanley Cup playoff action since 1998.
Game 6 of the Bruins/Capitals Stanley Cup playoff series drew a 2.5 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, up 56% from Flyers/Sabres Game 6 last year (1.6), and up 92% from Coyotes/Red Wings Game 6 in 2010 (1.3).
The 2.5 overnight is the highest of the season for the NHL on NBC — topping the Winter Classic in January (NYR/PHI: 2.4) — and is tied as the highest for any Stanley Cup playoff game, excluding the Stanley Cup final, since 1998 (DAL/DET G4: 2.6, FOX).
Earlier in the day, Penguins/Flyers Game 6 drew a 2.4 overnight. There was no comparable game last year.
The 2.4 is tied as the second-highest overnight for a Stanley Cup playoff game since 1998.
On Saturday, Capitals/Bruins Game 5 drew a 1.5 overnight, up 15% from both Capitals/Rangers Game 5 last year (1.3) and Predators/Blackhawks Game 5 in 2010 (1.3).
