Up-and-coming ESPN anchor Lindsay Czarniak will anchor ABC’s coverage of the Indianapolis 500 this year.

In a surprising move, ABC will give the struggling IndyCar Series primetime exposure next year.

The 2012 IndyCar Series season was not much of a success for broadcast partners ABC and NBC Sports Network.

Ratings soared for the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic last weekend. In other news, MLS viewership has risen on ESPN/ESPN2, and Sunday’s IndyCar rating was down slightly on ABC.

Overnight ratings surged for The Greenbrier Classic despite the absence of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Also included are overnight ratings for the Tour de France on NBC and the IndyCar Series on ABC.

Overnight ratings increased double-digits for Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s victory at Michigan. In other news, the Nationwide Series and IndyCar also saw increases over the weekend.

Over 4% of New York TV homes tuned into the Mets’ no-hitter Friday night. Elsewhere, IndyCar ratings dropped, and French Open overnights were mixed.

Ratings and viewership hit four-year highs for the 2012 Indy 500.

Though down only slightly from last year, the 2012 Indianapolis 500 earned one of the lowest overnights ever for the event.
