X Games Generally Down on ESPN


The downward trend for the Winter X Games continued last weekend.

Coverage of the 2011 Winter X Games drew a 0.9 U.S. rating and 1.619 million viewers on ESPN Sunday evening, down 18% in ratings and 10% in viewership from 2009 (1.1, 1.709M). Last year’s Sunday night window aired on ESPN2 — the Pro Bowl aired on ESPN — and earned 1.044 million viewers.

Earlier in the day, the afternoon window drew a 0.8 and 1.298 million viewers on ESPN, down 27% and 29%, respectively, from last year (1.1, 1.816M).

On Saturday, evening coverage drew a 0.6 U.S. rating and 987,000 viewers on ESPN, down 46% in ratings and 50% in viewership from last year’s comparable window (1.1, 1.967M).

The X Games was the lowest rated, least viewed sporting event on ESPN Saturday, trailing all four of the network’s college basketball games.

Saturday afternoon coverage on ESPN2 drew a 0.4 and 550,000 viewers; ratings and viewership for last year’s Saturday afternoon window were unavailable.
