FOX hit a multi-year high in the overnights for Sunday’s NFL national window.
The Week 6 NFL national window, featuring Cowboys/Patriots in 88% of markets, earned a 19.1 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon — up 10% from Week 6 last year (DAL/MIN: 17.4, FOX), and up 28% from Week 6 in 2009 (TEN/NE*: 14.9, CBS).
The 19.1 overnight is the highest for an NFL regular season telecast since the Week 9 national window in November 2007 (NE/IND*: 22.5, CBS). For some perspective, last year’s top NFL overnight was an 18.5 for the Week 14 national window (NE/CHI*: 18.5, CBS).
Relative to FOX, Sunday’s telecast tied the highest regular season overnight since 2002.
It is certainly not news that the NFL is a bigger television draw than the other sports. Having said that, Sunday’s national window drew a higher overnight than every college football game since 2007 (UF/OSU: 19.1, FOX), every Major League Baseball game since 2004 (BOS/STL G4: 19.7), and every NBA game since 1998 (CHI/UTA G6: 22.9).
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring 49ers/Lions in 33% of markets earned a 12.4 overnight, up 46% from last year (ATL/PHI*: 8.5), and up 17% from 2009 (BAL/MIN*: 10.6, CBS).
The FOX doubleheader earned the two highest overnights of Week 6.
