Former ESPN personality Dan Patrick has found a new gig, signing on to join The Content Factory.
Created by Jimmy deCastro, “the former Chicago radio czar who headed Evergreen Media, Chancellor Media, AMFM Inc. and America Online“, The Content Factory “produce[s] and distribute[s] content across a variety of media platforms, including terrestrial radio, satellite radio, HD Radio, online, mobile and TV.”
Where will Patrick fit in? According to deCastro, the former ESPN Radio host and SportsCenter anchor will “continue his innovative industry leadership by taking his brand, the ?Big Show,? to broader audiences in the innovative ways they receive their information ? via radio, television, internet, podcasts, infopods, mobil (sic) devices and beyond.”
What does this do for Patrick?
He does get a syndicated radio gig, and can get his content delivered across many platforms. However, he loses the name recognition of ESPN — and really does not get much more exposure, as one imagines that ESPN has the same content distribution capabilities of the upstart Content Factory.
For Patrick, the motivation to leave ESPN may not have been to run to greener pastures or to gain any extra exposure opportunities; instead, it may have been to try something new and different. Of course, the motivation could have also been monetary in nature — though terms of any deal between Patrick and The Content Factory were not immediately available. Whether or not that will be beneficial to his career will be decided in the coming months.
