The voice of the NBA will remain on TNT for the next eight years.
Turner Sports announced yesterday that lead NBA play-by-play voice Marv Albert will stay with TNT through the duration of the new television deal announced last summer. Albert will call Thursday night games, the NBA All Star Game and one NBA Conference Final on TNT each year, in addition to several games on NBA TV beginning next season.
The eight year contract could result in Albert finishing his legendary career with TNT. Several outlets report Albert is 64, though on NBC’s last NBA broadcast in 2002, anchor Bob Costas said Albert was “celebrating his 49th birthday for a record 12th consecutive year” which would put his age at 66 or 67. Albert will be at least 72 by the time this contract ends.
Albert, who worked on NBC from 1990 to 1997 and again from 2000 to 2002, has been with Turner since 1999. TNT was the first national outlet to give him a second chance after his legal issues in 1997.
