ESPN drew record high ratings for its first ever presentation of The Masters last week.
Second round coverage of The Masters on Friday drew a 3.1 cable rating, the highest ever rating for any golf telecast on cable. Coverage drew 3.1 million households, marking the first time ever “one of the first two rounds of the Masters Tournament delivered more than three million households.” Coverage also set a record high among adults 18-34, drawing a 0.9 rating.
The 3.1 for Friday coverage marks a 24% increase from last year, when early round coverage of the tournament aired on USA Network.
ESPN also drew solid ratings for first round coverage. The network drew a 2.1 cable rating on Thursday, up 10% from last year.
Credit the higher ratings to the ESPN hype machine, which has been promoting The Masters since January.
