In his exclusive interview with ESPN’s Peter Gammons, embattled MLB star Alex Rodriguez blasted Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts, one of the writers behind Saturday’s bombshell article linking the slugger to steroids.
Rodriguez unleashed some fairly explosive allegations against Roberts, accusing the SI writer of stalking him for the past 3-4 years. In particular, Rodriguez says that Roberts has been thrown out of his N.Y. apartment, thrown out of the University of Miami for trespassing, and cited by police for trying to break into his house.
Though he admits steroid use, Rodriguez accuses Roberts of lying. He says that Roberts is “trying to throw things out there that in high school I tried steroids“, which he calls “the biggest bunch of baloney I’ve ever heard in my life.” From his perspective, Roberts is “coming out with all these allegations, all these lies because she’s writing an article for Sports Illustrated and she’s coming out with a book in May.”
That book, “Hit & Run: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez“, is described as “an expose of A-Rod?s controversial path to self-destruction.” Among other things, the book is rumored to “take a look at A-rod?s struggle with his sexuality as well as his steroid use.”
Rodriguez laments that “respectable journalists are following this lady off the cliff and following her lead.”
Overall, Rodriguez mentioned Roberts by name five times in the interview, and referred to her as “this lady” eight times.
In a statement, Roberts denies Rodriguez’ allegations.
