A TNT NBA doubleheader topped the sports viewership charts for Tuesday, December 12.
TNT averaged 1.62 million viewers for an NBA doubleheader Tuesday night, including 1.73 million for Warriors-Suns and 1.50 million for Lakers-Mavericks — up 66 and 10 percent respectively from the equivalent windows last season (Mavericks-Nuggets: 1.04M; Lakers-Cavaliers: 1.37M) and the two largest sports audiences of the day. (TNT coverage of Lakers-Mavericks was blacked out in Los Angeles.)
In other action, ESPN averaged 523,000 viewers for an NHL doubleheader — the most-watched NHL doubleheader on any network since the second week of the season. In particular, the network drew 626,000 for Red Wings-Blues and 406,000 for Blackhawks-Oilers — both up from last year, when it carried a solo Capitals-Blackhawks game (378K).
Over on ESPN2, Duke’s win over Hofstra in men’s college basketball scored 368,000 viewers — up 9% from The Citadel-North Carolina in the same window a year ago (337K). In other college basketball action, Monmouth-Seton Hall scraped together a mere 84,000 viewers on FS1, followed by Coppin State-Georgetown at an even-lower 55,000. On Big Ten Network, Alcorn State-Maryland chipped in 59,000.
Live NBA G-League coverage on ESPNU (Rip City Remix-G League Ignite) averaged just 13,000 viewers.
In UEFA Champions League action, PSV Eindhoven-Arsenal averaged 53,000 on TUDN, followed by Manchester United-Bayern Munich at 77,000.
