The UFL season ended on a strong note with the most-watched spring football title game since the 2001 XFL.
Sunday’s Birmingham-San Antonio UFL Championship Game averaged 1.60 million viewers on FOX, marking the most-watched spring football championship game since the 2001 XFL “Million Dollar Game” on NBC (2.91M). Viewership increased 38% from last year’s USFL title game on NBC (Pittsburgh-Birmingham: 1.16M) and 11% from last year’s XFL Championship on ABC (Arlington-DC: 1.44M).
The only other spring football title game over that span was the inaugural 2022 USFL Championship on FOX (Birmingham-Philadelphia: 1.52M). Two other spring football efforts, the 2019 Alliance of American Football and 2020 XFL, ended prematurely.
Across all spring football games, the UFL Championship was the most-watched since a Memphis-Michigan USFL game on NBC last May that had a direct lead-in from the Kentucky Derby (2.06M).
Birmingham’s shutout win, which peaked with 1.72 million in the 6:15 PM ET quarter-hour, delivered the largest audience of the inaugural UFL season.
The full UFL season averaged 850,000 viewers across FOX, FS1, ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 — up 34% from last year’s combination of USFL and XFL games (635K), though it should be noted that both leagues competed against each other for several weeks. Games on broadcast averaged 945,000 viewers and those on cable drew 630,000.
