- The Wall Street Journal is reporting the NFL and ESPN have been in negotiations “for some time” to form a partnership that could finally give the NFL Network wider distribution. Some of the possibilities discussed have included combining the NFL Network with ESPN Classic, which is in over twenty million more homes.
- NBC will continue airing Notre Dame football games for the next seven years, after the network and the university agreed to extend their current television contract through 2015. NBC will continue broadcasting Fighting Irish home games, including one prime time off-site game each season. Last year, Notre Dame football on NBC averaged a 1.9 rating.
- ESPN began coverage of Wimbledon with a new look. In addition to finally incorporating the most recent graphics package into tennis coverage, ESPN has debuted a new horizontal scoreboard at the top of the screen. Two problems: the number of games won is separate from the players’ names, and the scoreboard itself gets cut off on some televisions. Several years ago, ESPN debuted a similarly creative vertical scoreboard for tennis broadcasts.
