The 2012 London Summer Olympics continued to put up strong numbers on NBC Sunday.
Tape delayed primetime coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics drew a 19.8 rating and 36 million viewers on NBC Sunday night, up 9% in ratings and 12% in viewership from Beijing in 2008 (18.1, 32.256M), and up 29% and 39%, respectively, from Athens in 2004 (15.4, 25.819M).
The first Sunday night telecast of the most recent Olympics, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, drew a 14.3 and 26.372 million viewers.
Sunday’s telecast drew the second-largest audience for any Olympic telecast since the Closing Ceremony of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics (38.738M). Only Friday’s Opening Ceremony (40.7M) earned a larger audience.
In addition, the telecast drew the largest audience on record for the second night of competition at a non-U.S. Summer Olympics.
Through three nights, NBC has averaged a 19.2 rating and 35.8 million viewers for coverage of the 2012 London Summer Olympics, up 12% in ratings and 17% in viewership from 2008 (17.1, 30.6M), and up 36% and 49%, respectively, from 2004 (14.1, 24.0M).
This marks the highest three-night viewership average on record for the Summer Olympics, even topping Atlanta in 1996 (34.4M).
