Apparently, viewers were just not interested in rehashing a year-old controversy.
The Week 2 edition of “Sunday Night Football,” pitting the Lions against the 49ers, earned a 13.9 overnight rating on NBC — down 12% from Eagles/Falcons last year (15.7), and down 9% from Giants/Colts in 2010 (15.2).
The 13.9 overnight is the lowest for a Sunday night game in Week 2 of the season since Steelers/Browns in 2008 (11.9).
NBC gave Sunday’s game a decent amount of hype due to the confrontation between Lions coach Jim Schwartz and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh last year.
As is typical, “Sunday Night Football” finished behind the NFL national window, which this week aired on CBS (14.4). The telecast did top the FOX singleheader (13.3), though not by much.
