Despite airing on the least-viewed night of the week, the fifth game of the Stanley Cup Final put up solid numbers on NBC.
Game 5 of the Bruins/Blackhawks NHL Stanley Cup Final drew a 4.0 overnight rating on NBC Saturday night, up 54% from Kings/Devils Game 5 last year (2.6), and up 25% from Bruins/Canucks Game 5 in 2011 (3.2).
The 4.0 is the highest overnight for a Saturday Stanley Cup Final telecast since Devils/Avalanche Game 7 in 2001 (5.6), and the highest for a non-clinching Saturday game since Red Wings/Flyers Game 1 in 1997 (5.1).
The 4.0 is also tied with 2010 as the highest for a Game 5 in the Stanley Cup Final since Penguins/Red Wings in 2008 (4.3).
With that said, Saturday’s overnight is the lowest of the series on NBC, trailing Game 4 on Wednesday (4.6) and Game 1 on June 12 (4.8).
Locally, Game 5 drew a 24.4 rating in Boston — down 5% from Bruins/Canucks Game 5 in 2011 (25.8). The game also drew a 22.1 in Chicago, down 15% from Flyers/Blackhawks Game 5 in 2010 (26.0).
