- Despite not having the rights to the game, ESPN will provide super-sized coverage of Super Bowl XLIII. The network will air 90 hours of Super Bowl related content starting Monday, with over 25 personalities reporting from Tampa. The network’s coverage will include daily SportsCenter Specials and a four-hour edition of Sunday NFL Countdown on Super Bowl Sunday.
- Not to be outdone, NFL Network will provide 213 hours of Super Bowl related coverage starting Saturday, including marathon editions of NFL Total Access next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, a six-hour edition of NFL Gameday Morning on Super Bowl Sunday, and even a “roundup of the greatest Super Bowl commercials of all time.” Among the guests showing up on NFL Network next week: NBC’s Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth.
- SportsCenter has a new feature in the works. Game Count, “a tally of all professional (including minor league) and NCAA-recognized championship games … scheduled to be played in America each day,” will be a part of the weekend morning and 6 PM weekday editions of SportsCenter. Game Count will debut on Saturday, when there are 1,250 games scheduled.
