- For an NFL game, the Pro Bowl did horribly, scoring a 5.1 overnight. For the Pro Bowl, however, the rating was just fine — and the number of viewers will likely be higher than the amount from last year’s game (which was televised on ESPN).
- ABC’s NBA doubleheader was down slightly from last year. Lakers/Cavaliers was even from the comparable Heat/Pistons game in ’06, with a 3.1 overnight, but down 11 percent from a Lakers/Cavaliers game on the comparable date in 2005. Spurs/Heat was down 7 percent from regional action in 2006, going from a 2.6 to a 2.4, and down 14 percent from a Spurs/Heat game on the comparable date in 2005.
- Ominous: NBC’s NHL coverage drew a 0.9 overnight rating with a 2 share, lower than the rating for CBS’ presentation of Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross and bull riding on NBC.
- NASCAR did as well as can be expected, considering that neither the Bud Shootout or Daytona qualifying are marquee events; the Budweiser Shootout drew a 4.2 overnight on Saturday night, helping FOX to a first place finish among 18-49s, while Daytona qualifying drew a 2.5 overnight — one of the rare NASCAR events that got outdrawn by an NBA game.
- Considering the large amount of games available, and the resulting fragmented audience, its no surprise that college basketball regular season games get poor ratings. CBS drew a 1.6 and ABC drew a 1.2 for college basketball action on Saturday, while UConn/Georgia Tech scored a 1.2 rating on Sunday — exactly half the rating of the competing NBA game (Spurs/Heat).
