More details have emerged in last week’s incident involving CBS Sports broadcaster Gus Johnson.
In the early morning on Saturday, March 14, Johnson was temporarily detained by police after an altercation with the manager of the Blues City Cafe in Memphis. According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Johnson was found “scuffling on the floor” with the restaurant manager, Daniel Reed.
The physical confrontation began after police had already arrived at the restaurant. Reed told police that he grabbed Johnson after the play-by-play man pushed him and was seemingly about to throw a punch. Johnson said he was pushed first.
Officers had to “break up the scrum,” and detained Johnson after “he refused to let go of Reed.”
Neither man was arrested, and Johnson apparently faced no punishment from CBS, as he called first and second round NCAA Tournament action on the network.
