It was not the top draw of the tournament on Univision, but Sunday’s World Cup final still set a network record.
The Germany/Argentina FIFA World Cup final earned 9.2 million viewers on Univision Sunday afternoon, up 5% from Spain/Netherlands in 2010 (8.8M), up 56% from Italy/France in 2006 (5.9M), and the most-watched World Cup final ever on Spanish-language television.
The match was not the network’s top draw of the World Cup, however, trailing Netherlands/Mexico in the Round of 16 (10.4M). Overall, it ranks as the third-most watched World Cup match ever on Univision — behind Netherlands/Mexico this year and Mexico/Argentina in 2010 (9.4M).
Among adults 18-49, Univision’s coverage of the match earned 5.0 million viewers (equivalent to a 3.9 rating). That marks the network’s second-largest audience of the tournament, trailing only Netherlands/Mexico (5.8M).
Overall, viewership for the 2014 World Cup increased 34% on Univision compared to 2010. Viewership figures were not immediately available.
