Overnight ratings dropped by double-digits for Sunday’s NFL national window.
The Week 2 NFL national window, featuring Chiefs/Broncos in 56% of markets, drew a 14.6 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 18% from coverage featuring the Broncos/Giants ‘Manning Bowl’ last year (17.8) but up 1% from coverage featuring Jets/Steelers in 2012 (14.4). The 14.6 overnight is the second-lowest for the Week 2 national window since coverage featuring Chiefs/Bears in 2007 (11.2), ahead of only 2012.
The 14.6 overnight was still the highest of Week 2, but topped NBC’s Sunday Night Football by only 4% (14.6 to 14.0). By comparison, the Week 1 national window on FOX drew a 17.4 overnight.
Earlier in the day, regional action on CBS drew a 9.9 overnight — down 8% from last year (10.7), down 15% from 2012 (11.6), and the lowest for the Week 2 early window since 2008 (9.6).
The season debut of Thursday Night Football, as previously reported, had a 13.7 on CBS and NFL Network.
