Dan Patrick‘s newest foray into television could put a new spin on the radio simulcast.
A three-hour simulcast of The Dan Patrick Show will begin airing on DirecTV Monday morning. As opposed to offering viewers the customary radio simulcast of one camera on the host for the majority of the show, the TV version of The Dan Patrick Show will feature a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the program.
For example, the cameras — four robotic cameras and “a handheld to give the TV show a feeling akin to ‘The Office’” — will continue to roll throughout commercial breaks, allowing viewers to see “the conversation that usually happens off the air.” Additionally, the show will include a confessional booth, where “Dan and production team members … share their funny, sarcastic and pointed opinions.”
Executive producer Paul Pabst told The Sporting News that viewers will “see the messiness of radio. … [W]hat we?re doing here, hopefully, is just showing how a radio show happens during the show and then before and after.” That ‘messiness’ could include anything from “from producers yelling at guests for not calling in on time to staffers trying to get out of commitments with their families to spend more time doing ?research? in their new studio.”
Patrick, to The Sporting News: “[T]his can be somewhat dangerous and wide open — but that?s refreshing.”
The Dan Patrick Show joins a crowded field of sports radio shows simulcast on television. ESPN2 simulcasts Mike and Mike in the Morning and The Scott Van Pelt Show, while ESPNU simulcasts The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
