Friday’s Players Championship coverage was again up big from last year and down big from 2013. In other news, NBCSN earned one of its largest Formula 1 audiences, and ESPN had fewer viewers for a rain delayed Sunday Night Baseball game.
Second Round of Players Championship Up Big, But Down From ’13
- Second round coverage of the PGA Tour Players Championship earned 965,000 viewers on Golf Channel Friday afternoon, up 41% from last year (687K) but down 43% from 2013 (1.7M). That mirrored Thursday’s first round, which as previously reported was up 63% from last year and down 50% from 2013. It should be noted that the 2013 tournament was won by Tiger Woods. NBCSN Earns Third-Largest F1 Audience
- Formula 1 racing from Spain earned 543,000 viewers on NBCSN Sunday morning, up 19% from last year (455K), up 139% from 2013 (227K), and the third-largest audience for an F1 race on NBCSN (dates back to 2013). Only the Bahrain race both this year (630K) and last (594K) earned a larger audience. (via ShowBuzz Daily)
Fewer Viewers For Delayed Sunday Night Baseball Game
- The Royals/Tigers Sunday Night Baseball game, which had a nearly two-hour rain delay, drew 1.6 million viewers on ESPN — down 20% from Cardinals/Cubs last year (2.0M) and down 31% from Dodgers/Giants in 2013 (2.3M). The Royals’ extra-inning win was just the second Sunday night telecast this season to have a decline in viewership. (via TV By the Numbers)
