Ratings for the NLCS took a hit over the weekend.
Dodgers/Phillies Game 3, a rout in favor of the Phillies, drew a 3.0 U.S. rating and 5 million viewers on TBS Sunday night, down 46% and 43%, respectively, from Game 3 between the same two teams on FOX last year (5.6, 8.8 mil).
Compared to past LCS on TBS, Dodgers/Phillies Game 3 was even in ratings and up 12% in viewers from Rays/Red Sox Game 3 on a Monday afternoon last year (3.0, 4.5 mil), but down 6% and 2%, respectively, from Diamondbacks/Rockies Game 3 in ’07 (3.2, 5.2 mil).
The 3.0 U.S. rating is the third-lowest ever for a primetime League Championship Series game, ahead of only Games 2 and 4 of the ’07 Rockies/Diamondbacks NLCS.
Game 3 drew a massive 29.1 in Philadelphia and a 7.3 in Los Angeles.
Game 2 of the series on Friday afternoon drew a 2.9 U.S. rating and and 4.4 million viewers on TBS, down 14% in ratings and 12% in viewership from last year’s Game 2 on FOX, also on a Friday afternoon (3.4, 5.0 mil).
Compared to past LCS on TBS, Phillies/Dodgers Game 2 was down 24% in ratings and 27% in viewers from Red Sox/Rays Game 2 in primetime last year (3.8, 6.0 mil), but up 32% and 33%, respectively, from Rockies/Diamondbacks Game 2 in ’07 (2.2, 3.3 mil).
Through Sunday, the ’09 MLB postseason is averaging a 3.2 U.S. rating and 4.9 million viewers on TBS, up 7% in ratings and viewership from last year.
In particular, the Phillies/Dodgers NLCS is averaging a 3.4 U.S. rating and 5.4 million viewers through three games, down 27% and 25%, respectively, from a 4.7 and 7.2 million through the same point of last year’s NLCS on FOX. Compared to last year’s ALCS on TBS, Phillies/Dodgers is down 6% in ratings and viewership from a 3.6 and 5.8 million for the first three games of Red Sox/Rays.
