Overnight ratings tied a 12-year high for PGA Tour coverage from Hartford.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Hartford Open drew a 2.3 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 92% from last year (1.2), up 15% from 2013 (2.0), and tied with 2005 as the highest for the event since 2003 (2.7).
The 92% increase is the highest of the season for any PGA Tour telecast (including majors and WGC events), with the caveat that last year’s numbers were unusually low. Dating back to the Tampa Bay Championship in March, 12 of the past 16 final round telecasts have had an increase in overnight ratings, with 11 of those by double-digits and six by at least a third.
Eight PGA Tour tournaments this year have hit a multi-year high in final round overnights, with Sunday’s telecast joining The Memorial (highest since 2012), the Colonial (highest since 2006), Quail Hollow (T-highest since 2010), the Heritage (highest since 2004), the Houston Open (highest since 2011), Tampa Bay Championship (highest ever), and Northern Trust Open (highest since 2012).
For the weekend, Sunday’s final round ranked third among all sporting events behind NASCAR on FS1 (2.4) and Friday’s USA/China FIFA Women’s World Cup match on FOX (4.2).
In other action, third round coverage on Saturday drew a 1.4 overnight — up 56% from last year (0.9) but down a tick from 2013 (1.5).
