ESPN Extends President
- ESPN president John Skipper has agreed to a contract extension through 2018. The news has yet to be announced officially, but was reported by multiple outlets Wednesday. Skipper, who has been with ESPN since 1997 and president of the company since 2012, signed the deal over the summer according to Sports Business Daily. (Sports Business Daily)
Lupica May or May Not Be Out at NYDN
- The New York Daily News let go several members of its sports department Wednesday as part of extensive layoffs, with longtime columnist Mike Lupica initially reported as one of the casualties. However, CNN reported Thursday that negotiations have not yet broken off between Lupica and the tabloid he has worked for since 1977, and The New York Times also indicated that his departure was not a done deal. Former Astros Voice Hamilton Dies
- Former Houston Astros play-by-play voice Milo Hamilton passed away Thursday at the age of 88. Hamilton called Astros games from 1985 until his retirement three years ago, after previous stints with several teams — including the Atlanta Braves during Hank Aaron‘s home run chase. (NYT)
