Orsillo Joining Padres
- Outgoing Boston Red Sox play-by-play voice Don Orsillo will join the San Diego Padres broadcast team next season, according to ESPN and WEEI. Orsillo will split time with the retiring Dick Enberg next season before becoming the team’s primary television voice in 2017. He will also work national games for Fox Sports. Per WEEI, the Padres are expected to announce Orsillo’s hiring either Wednesday or Thursday. (ESPN, WEEI)
Hoge to Have Heart Surgery
- ESPN NFL analyst Merril Hoge announced on NFL Live Monday that he will undergo surgery to replace a heart vessel, a procedure that ESPN says will keep him off the air for “several weeks.” Hoge is expected to make a full recovery. (nbcsports.com)
Schilling Returning From Suspension
- ESPN Major League Baseball analyst Curt Schilling will return from his suspension on Tuesday’s Baseball Tonight following the A.L. Wild Card Game. Schilling, who would have called the Wild Card Game if not for the suspension, was removed from ESPN’s lead MLB broadcast team last month after he posted controversial comments to Twitter and defended them in an e-mail to Awful Announcing.
