Viewership for the NFL postseason has risen to levels not seen in decades.
The NFL’s Conference Championship round averaged 52.9 million viewers on FOX and CBS, up 34% from last season (39.6 mil), and the highest average for that round of the postseason since 1982 (60.2 mil).
Jets/Colts was the most-viewed AFC title game since ’86, while Vikings/Saints was the most-viewed title game period (AFC or NFC) since ’82.
The 28-year high for the Conference Championship round comes on the heels of similar increases for earlier rounds of the postseason.
The Divisional round averaged 33.0 million viewers on FOX and CBS, up 15% from last year (28.8 mil), and the highest average since ’94 (34.2 mil).
Meanwhile, the Wild Card round averaged 29.9 million viewers on FOX, CBS and NBC, up 16% from last year (25.8 mil), and the highest average since ’95 (30.0 mil).
Overall, every single NFL playoff game has had an increase in ratings and viewership compared to last year.
