In a move that did not need announcing, NBC has named Bob Costas the host of its primetime Olympic coverage. In other news, ESPN has reached a contract extension with Kate Fagan, and the WNBA has found a new president.
As Usual, Costas to Host Primetime Olympics on NBC
- NBC Sports announced Wednesday that Bob Costas will host its primetime coverage of the Rio Summer Olympics, marking his eleventh Olympics — and tenth straight — in the role. Overall, Rio will be the 12th Olympics Costas has worked for NBC, including his time as late night host during the 1988 Summer Games. As previously announced, Costas will not pull double-duty as he did in 2014, working both the primetime and late night windows. The latter role belongs to reality show entertainer Ryan Seacrest this year. (NBC Sports)
Fagan Gets ESPN Extension
- ESPN has announced a multi-year contract extension with ESPN.com writer and Around the Horn panelist Kate Fagan. Fagan, who joined ESPN in 2012 after time with the Philadelphia Inquirer, will continue in her current roles and co-host a pair of previously announced ESPN Radio shows. (ESPN Media Zone)
WNBA Names New President
- The WNBA has named former Coca Cola chairwoman Lisa Borders its new president, filling the vacancy left by Laurel Richie last year. She will begin in the position on March 21. Borders is the fourth president in the 20-year history of the league, one shy of the number of presidents and commissioners in the 70-year history of the NBA. (WNBA)
